3 Subtle Signs You Need Residential HVAC Maintenance Soon
A residential heating and cooling system is easy to forget about until something goes wrong. Since it may go months or even years between maintenance periods, it’s not unusual for a HVAC to accumulate a number of small problems that can be difficult to catch on to. Then, all of a sudden, those issues rack up until they cause a serious performance problem.
Although HVAC maintenance can slide to the bottom of your priority list, it’s a good idea to give it a thought at least once a year. The best way to protect your system is to make sure you get it looked at by an experienced HVAC professional once a year.

Preventive maintenance can stop a lot of issues in their tracks – but you should check out your system every now and then for subtle signs of mechanical issues. If you notice any of the following problems, it’s about time to call an expert.

1. Odd Smells
If there are odd smells wafting from your vents, the first thing to look into is your HVAC filter. A filter may need to be replaced or cleaned, depending on the model. When this doesn’t resolve the issue, there may be a deeper problem with the ductwork – something stuck, for example. If the scent is of something burning, call for emergency service: There may be an electrical issue.

2. Your HVAC System Runs Continuously
When the seasons change, it’s not unusual to find your system running more often. After all, it’s there to help you take the edge off the winter or – especially – the Florida summer. If you find your HVAC never shuts off, however, you could be facing a few different problems. Replace your thermostat batteries; if this doesn’t solve the problems, call to have your ducts checked.

3. You Hear Odd Noises
This one isn’t necessarily subtle: If you hear a loud clang or bang as your system turns on or off, it’s probably time for HVAC maintenance. Your HVAC has all kinds of components, large and small. Each of these can suffer from mechanical wear and tear. Although this can be signaled by some unusual sounds, the issue can usually be resolved by replacing the component.

When they are caught early, most HVAC maintenance issues can be resolved easily. They become serious when they aren’t acted on fast enough. Spare a thought for your HVAC system every now and then – and if you notice anything unusual, contact the team at East Coast Heating and Air Conditioning. We look forward to helping you.
